Description:
Even though it's outdated by Netbook standards, the Asus Eee PC 701 was reliable and durable companion during my travels through Southeast Asia and Australia. Although I would recommend the Series 901 for those interested in mobile computing, a quick look at the 701 gives a good baseline comparison for what you might look for in a Netbook.
The standard 701 features:
- Xandros (Linux) operating system
- 7" screen (800x480 resolution)
- 900 MHz Celeron processor
- 512Mb RAM (upgradable to 1Gb)
- 4Gb Solid State Hard Drive
- 802.11b/g WiFi
- Ethernet Port
- 3 USB 2.0 ports
- Headphone and Microphone jack
- Monitor Output Port
- Expandable SD Card Slot
- 1.3 megapixel integrated webcam
- Kensington Lock
- 4 cell 5200 mAH Battery with small battery charger
- Neoprene Carry Case
- Listed Battery Life is 3.5 hours but my own tests have yielded 2h15m under heavy usage
This laptop worked great during my trip. I only moved on to the 901 because of the small screen and the inability to install programs with the stock Xandros operating system.
This video was shot with a Canon G9 on loan.
